How it works
- You receive your keyWith the installer. It looks like
MB-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. - You enter it on first launchIn the “Activation — MBI Clone” window, with the “Activate” button. An Internet connection is required for this step. O/0 and I/1 mix-ups are corrected automatically.
- The computer keeps working, even offlineThe right of use renews in the background. Without Internet, MBI Clone starts normally on the computer during the grace period: 14 days by default.
Switching computers
On the old computer, use “Deactivate this computer” on the licence screen, or at the end of a job:
MbiClone.exe --desactiver-licence
The licence remains usable on another computer, even if the old one was offline.
What is stored on the computer
Only a temporary right of use, tied to the machine. The key is never stored there; only an anonymous fingerprint of the machine is sent, over HTTPS.
A server outage or network failure never affects a licence that is still valid.

Cloning
The clone won’t boot: what should I check?
The firmware mode first: a GPT destination boots in UEFI mode (Legacy/CSM disabled), an MBR destination keeps legacy BIOS mode. If “INTERRUPTED CLONE DETECTED” appears at launch, the destination is incomplete: run the clone again.
Why is a USB destination refused?
Some enclosures hide the disk’s real identity. MBI Clone refuses to erase a disk it cannot identify with certainty (MBICLONE-PREFLIGHT-110): connect it via SATA or NVMe, or use a different adapter.
What if the source has bad sectors?
Cloning stops at the first read error: an incomplete clone would not boot reliably once back with the customer. The source stays intact, and profile transfer has a rescue mode to recover the data.
Profile transfer
Are Outlook emails transferred?
Everything in the profile folder is copied, including a PST file stored there. A PST stored elsewhere, or a OneDrive file that has not been downloaded, is not: ask the customer where they keep their files.
Why does the Wi-Fi key have to be entered again?
Networks and their keys belong to the old PC, not to the profile. When transferring from a disk, they are named so that you know which keys to ask for.
Can I transfer to an account that already exists?
Yes, if it is local and nobody has ever signed in to it. Create the customer’s account without signing in to it, then transfer the profile into it. An account that has already been used is refused.
Several profiles over the network?
One pairing serves a single profile; start again with a new code for the next one. For several profiles in one pass, the transfer by disk handles a batch.
Licence and installation
The computer has been offline and is asking for the key again?
The grace period has run out: connect the machine to the Internet and restart the application, and the licence renews itself. If the message mentions the date, correct the Windows clock first.
Where are the logs?
In C:\ProgramData\MB Informatique\MBI Clone: one log per clone and per transfer, kept for at least 90 days.
